Craig Street Woman Wounded in Shooting

More than 30 shell casings were recovered Sunday evening from the scene of a shooting on Craig Street in which an  innocent bystander was injured.

Allegheny County police said a 68-year-old woman who was sitting on her porch was injured when unknown gunmen targeting a house in the 1100 block of Craig Street opened fire.

In addition to the unidentified victim, who was struck in the arm, two houses and three vehicles were damaged, county police said.

The incident happened just before 5:30 p.m., police said.

Police recovered a mix of rifle and handgun casings and said they believe the shooters, who fled on foot, were targeting a specific house.

Former MASD Teacher Charged in Abuse Case

A former McKeesport Area School District teacher is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond after being charged in connection with 11 alleged incidents of child sex abuse.

Eric V. Fairman, 26, is charged by Allegheny County police with multiple counts of indecent assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with minors and criminal use of a communications facility. Allegheny County police said Fairman surrendered this morning.

McKeesport Area school officials said Fairman resigned from his position at Founders Hall Middle School on Wednesday, when the district learned he was being investigated. He had worked there since September 2021.

Fairman also has been removed from coaching positions at West Jefferson Hills School District, school officials there said.

Police allege the incidents occurred in 2020 and 2021 in Pleasant Hills and Jefferson Hills borough, where according to published reports, Fairman served as a girls’ assistant basketball coach and former ninth-grade baseball coach at Thomas Jefferson High School.

NV Twp. Man Killed in Saturday Shooting

A North Versailles Twp. man died Saturday evening after a shooting in the Crestas neighborhood.

Lyndale Irish-Knight, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 5 p.m., the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said.

Allegheny County police said in a prepared statement that police and paramedics were dispatched to a business in the 400 block of Porter Street at approximately 4:47 p.m. when a caller to 9-1-1 reported a shooting. There, police found the victim, later identified as Irish-Knight, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso, officials said.

County homicide detectives are investigating but few details have been released. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.

 

Man Charged in Connection With Fire

A city man has been charged in connection with a Thursday morning fire that destroyed a vacant home on Ridge Street.

Darryl E. Chapman, 37, no address available, is charged by McKeesport police with arson, recklessly endangering other persons, causing a catastrophe and criminal mischief, according to documents filed in Allegheny County Night Court.

Chapman was awaiting a preliminary hearing on Friday evening, court officials said.

The fire is being investigated by the Allegheny County fire marshal’s office.

One Dead Following Thursday Shooting

A Duquesne man died following a shooting Thursday night just off Versailles Avenue in McKeesport.

Maricco Randolph, 32, was pronounced dead at a hospital about an hour after the incident, the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said. Randolph had been shot several times in the chest and legs, the office said.

Allegheny County police said McKeesport officers were dispatched just before 10 p.m. for a report of shots fired in the area of the 600 block of Versailles Avenue. When they arrived, they found shell casings but no victim, county police said.

Police: Driver in Fatal Wreck Topped 90 MPH

A Glassport man accused of causing a fatal car wreck in North Versailles Twp. in March was driving at speeds above 90 mph just before the crash, police said.

Allegheny County police allege that Shamar A. Roach, 24, also was legally intoxicated and driving under the influence of marijuana before the collision on March 2 that fatally injured John D. Semenko, 59, of White Oak.

Police said Roach was arrested Monday without incident after surrendering to officers. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond pending an Aug. 26 hearing before Magisterial District Judge Kim Berkeley Clark.

Munhall Man Held in City Shooting

A Munhall man is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bail in connection with a shooting Saturday morning on Hamilton Street in McKeesport.

County police allege the shooting happened after the suspect attempted to rob someone from whom he had arranged to buy marijuana.

Police said the victim is in critical condition after being flown to a Pittsburgh hospital by medical helicopter.

Davon Blue, 20, is charged by Allegheny County police with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, recklessly endangering another person, obstructing administration of law and giving false information to law enforcement.

Man Faces Federal Prison in 2015 City Incident

A former Pittsburgh man who threatened to shoot up a house in McKeesport in 2015 has been found guilty on federal narcotics trafficking and firearms charges.

James Taric Byrd, 45, will be sentenced Dec. 5, said a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Cindy K. Chung in Pittsburgh. Byrd could face life in prison and a fine of up to $1.5 million.

A federal jury deliberated for approximately an hour on July 21 before convicting Byrd, who was tried before U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon.

Massive Fire Destroys Four Houses, Car

Investigators were searching for clues on Thursday following a devastating Soles Street fire that destroyed four homes. Officials suspect the fire was deliberately set.

The Allegheny County fire marshal’s office is probing the cause of the blaze, which was reported just after 2 a.m. and also destroyed a parked vehicle. Some crews remained on the scene until almost noon.

Two McKeesport police officers — identified as Patrolmen Chuck Thomas and Anthony Ledonne — were credited with rescuing an elderly married couple from one of the houses that was on fire.

The husband and wife were taken to UPMC McKeesport hospital as a precautionary measure, said Gene Esken Jr., McKeesport deputy fire chief.

Crawford Co. Man Held on Assault Charges

A tip received via Facebook led McKeesport police to arrest a Crawford County man whom they allege was having an inappropriate relationship with a city teen-ager.

Glen M. Stevens Jr., 34, of Cochranton, Pa., was arrested Wednesday and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond pending a preliminary hearing July 11 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi.

McKeesport police said officers received a tip via Facebook that a man identified as Stevens had been having explicit physical contact with a 15-year-old girl and that he was currently at the teen’s residence in the East End of the city.
